§ Mr. RandallTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, for each week from 10 January to the nearest available date, he will indicate(a) how many people arrived in the United Kingdom and claimed political asylum and (b) of which countries they were nationals; and how many of them were (i) refused leave to enter and removed from the United Kingdom, (ii) refused leave to enter and detained, (iii) refused leave to enter and granted temporary admission and (iv) granted temporary admission pending a decision.
§ Mr. RentonFor the period commencing week ending 16 January 1988 and finishing week ending 28 May 1988, the numbers of persons seeking asylum on arrival in the United Kingdom each week, are listed, by nationality, in the table. The available statistics refer only to the London airports and the Dover seaports.
There is no central record separating asylum seekers refused leave to enter, detained, granted temporary admission and removal from other passengers in these categories and the rest of the information requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
