Mr. McLeish

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many pupils obtained O-grades or higher certificate in secondary schools in each of the years 1979 to 1987, inclusive.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Details of pupils obtaining SCE higher grade and published annually in the Scottish Examination Board report, copies of which are held in the House of Commons Library. The report also contains information on numbers of S4 pupils obtaining ordinary/standard grades.
