§ Mr. McLeishTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what are the education and training objectives of the city technology concept in Scotland;
(2) if he has any proposals to introduce city technology colleges in 1988–89, 1989–90 and 1990–91;
(3) if he will give the estimated expenditure for the development of city technology colleges in 1988–89, 1989–90 and 1990–91;
(4) when he last met representatives of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities, the Confederation of British Industry, the Scottish Trades Union Congress or Strathclyde regional council to discuss the setting up of city technology colleges;
(5) if he has met representatives of private sector industry about the setting up of city technology colleges;
(6) whether any public finance will be used to meet the capital or revenue costs of city technology colleges;
(7) if any private individuals or private sector organisations have agreed to contribute finance to the setting up of city technology colleges; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythMy right hon. and learned Friend and I wish to encourage the establishment with private sector sponsorship of technology colleges in Scotland, and are giving close consideration to proposals to achieve this objective.
