HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 cc809-10W
Ms. Quin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what information he has as to what proportion of the total number of local authorities responsible for domestic waste disposal in England separate all or part of their domestic waste into different categories for recycling purposes;

(2) what information he has to how many local authorities in England which are responsible for domestic waste disposal services separate such domestic waste into (a) glass, (b) metal, (c) plastic and (d) papers for recycling purposes.

Mr. Moynihan

The Department does not collect information on the number of local authorities who separate their domestic waste into different categories. It is, however, known that a number of authorities operate mechanical separation plants and many others provide facilities for the public to separate their own waste for recycling.
