To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement about progress in water metering experiments.

Mr. Moynihan

So far the Department has received formal proposals for six metering trial schemes. The first of these, covering a small scale trial in Chandlers Ford in Hampshire was approved by my right hon. Friend last week. The other five schemes are under detailed consideration. I expect to receive proposals for other metering trials from water undertakers over the next few months.
