To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many jobs have been attracted to the London Docklands development corporation since 1981; and how many jobs were lost in the previous four years.

There are an estimated 36,000 jobs in the LDDC area, compared to 27,000 in 1981 when the corporation was created. About 20,000 are new jobs created or jobs attracted to the area since 1981. Some 10,000 jobs were lost between 1978 and 1981.
