89. Mr. Sackville

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how far forward the Trafford Park urban development corporation is with its plans; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Trippier

Trafford Park development corporation has drawn down £13.5 million of grant-in-aid since its inception in February 1987, £10.45 million in the financial year 1987.88, the remainder in the present financial year.

The corporation has been engaged in a programme of strategic land acquisition and environmental improvement projects. It has brought forward proposals for the redevelopment of Trafford Park village as a business centre; the upgrading of the Haddfield street industrial area; and for waterside developments in the Wharfside area.

The corporation has been taking initiatives in many other areas and through its marketing strategy has generated a substantial amount of private sector interest.
