§ Mr. NewtonWe have received two requests to meet staff side representatives of the ancillary staffs Whitley Council. Pay and conditions of NHS ancillary staff are matters for negotiation in that council. I have replied that in my view the normal processes of negotiation should be allowed to run their course, and that I would therefore prefer not to meet the staff side at this stage. I expressed my hope that a negotiated settlement would shortly be achieved.

§ Mr. NewtonThe pay and conditions of service of NHS ancillary staff are matters for negotiation in the ancillary staffs Whitley council. I understand that the current round of negotiations should be resumed later this month.
As health authorities operate within the cash planning system, they are expected to plan flexibly to meet pay increases and other costs from within the pool of resources available to them. This pool includes their increased cash allocations for the year, cost improvement savings and funds raised through income generation schemes.
