HC Deb 25 January 1988 vol 126 c78W
Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proposals he has for the provision of a new customs clearance station on the Armagh to Monaghan road; whether it will include facilities for the handling of importation of live cattle from the Republic of Ireland into the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lawson

It is proposed that a new customs clearance station will be provided on the Armagh to Monaghan road. A planning application is under consideration in respect of a site on the Monaghan road, Armagh, 180 m west of Umgola house. The proposals do not include facilities for dealing with regular importations of live cattle from the Republic of Ireland into the United Kingdom. It is intended, however, to make provision for the temporary holding of cattle which on occasion may have been detained for customs purposes.
