To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the level of prior consultation taking place with landowners, farmers and those with sporting rights before a site of special scientific interest is designated.

Yes. I am generally content with the present consultation arrangements, but I am reviewing the matter with the chairman of the NCC to see whether improvements can be made.
