HC Deb 26 February 1988 vol 128 cc384-6W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when his Department's office in Croydon received a letter and passport which was sent by registered post on 6 January by Miss Jurdotic Ladlina, a Yugoslav national, residing with Mr. and Mrs. Whiteley of 161 Church road, Southend-on-Sea; and if he will take steps to ensure that Miss Ladlina has her passport returned to her before her departure on 20 March.

Mr. Renton

Severe delays in dealing with correspondence in Lunar house have arisen because of the huge intake of correspondence and applications for citizenship which arrived in the last weeks of 1987. I recently announced the introduction of emergency measures to deal with the arrears of work on 16 February, at columns 862–63. It has not been possible to identify Miss Ladlina's letter from the information given, but the immigration and nationality department would normally expect to establish its receipt if full postal details, including the recorded delivery or registered postal packet number, the date of posting, and the purpose of the application can be provided. If the hon. Member will arrange for these details to be sent to me I will ensure that further inquiries are made and every effort made to return the passport as quickly as possible.
