§ Mr. Tony BanksTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will list the number of inspectors of education in each of the outer London boroughs;
(2) how many inspectors are employed by the Inner London education authority; what areas of the curriculum they cover; how many inspectors are employed in total by outer London boroughs who administer education; and how many inspectors he estimates will have to be employed by the proposed inner London local education authorities in order to ensure effective monitoring of the delivery of the curriculum.
§ Mr. Dunn[holding answer 18 February 1988]: Figures on local education authority inspectors are not collated centrally. The structure of local inspectorates, including the allocation of inspectors to specialisms, is a matter for each local education authority. Inner London councils will be required to publish development plans during 1989, setting out the education service they propose to provide; these plans will be required to include their proposals for an inspectorate.
