HC Deb 24 February 1988 vol 128 c230W
26. Sir Hector Monro

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of hospital building projects completed since 1979 and the numbers either at the building stage or planned; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

Since 1979, new capital investment in the National Health Service in Scotland has resulted in the completion of 51 major new hospital developments providing some 5,770 beds. A further 34 major developments are in planing, under construction or in course of being commissioned. These will provide 4,484 more new beds. This represents a substantial and continuing capital investment programme in the National Health Service in Scotland.
