HC Deb 24 February 1988 vol 128 cc235-6W
53. Mrs. Fyfe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he will discuss his proposals for privatisation of National Health Service services with the National Union of Public Employees, the Confederation of Health Service Employees, and other trade unions representing hospital workers.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

If events up to and including the "day of action" on 24 February demonstrate a genuine attempt by the trade unions to protect patients I would be prepared to consider a meeting.

54. Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to meet the chairmen of the health boards in order to discuss his plans for the privatisation of certain services and functions.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

My right hon. and learned Friend has no plans for privatisation. Competitive tendering for support services has been discussed with health board chairmen on a number of occasions. Boards are now proceeding with a limited programme of tendering and I propose to discuss progress when I meet chairmen next month.
