§ 40. Mr. AmessTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received about the road safety implications of the use of telephones in cars.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyWe have received a number of representations. Most expressed concern at the safety implications of using in-car telephones in moving vehicles. The revised highway code, issued in March 1987, tells drivers not to use a hand-held telephone while their vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. Anyone who can afford a car telephone can afford, and should use, a hands-free microphone.
