HC Deb 16 February 1988 vol 127 c577W
31. Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will take steps to ensure that further education students are informed about the true cost of the education they receive.

Mr. Jackson

The provisions on further education in the Education Reform Bill will require college budgets to be related to the number of students at each college. They will also require the publication of LEA funding and delegation schemes, and empower my right hon. Friend to require the publication of information about the operation of those schemes. This will promote awareness of funding methods and costs.

60. Mr. Hinchliffe

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has any plans to ensure a continued provision for students with special educational needs in colleges of further education; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

It is for the local education authorities to decide what provision to make for special educational needs in colleges of further education.

Clause 81 of the Education Reform Bill puts beyond doubt their duty to provide full-time education either in school or in FE for all who seek it up to the age of 19, including those with special educational needs. Provision for the adult population is a matter for the discretion of individual local education authorities.
