1. Annual accounts of the regional health authority and district 194W (formerly area) health authorities comprising the Mersey region.
2. Mid-year estimates of numbers of households (counties of Cheshire and Merseyside) — 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983 and 1986 (Department of Environment). Data specifically for the other years in the table is not available: the latest available figure was used.
Notes:
i. The figures have been expressed at 1979–80 and 1987–88 prices by the use of the gross domestic product deflator.
ii. Expenditure on family practitioner services is excluded: such expenditure is accounted for by family practitioner committees (FPCs) and cannot strictly be attributed to particular regions. However, prior to 1 April 1985 many of the district (formerly area) health authorities within the region had an associated FPC and those authorities' total expenditure figures for the years before that date include elements relating to FPCs' administrative expenses which are not separately identifiable.
iii. Expenditure by the special health authorities and other bodies providing central services to the National Health Service and expenditure met centrally by the Department is also excluded.
