HC Deb 05 February 1988 vol 126 c801W
Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services to what extent the introduction of income support will affect families with children whose breadwinner is not in work.

Mr. Scott

The information is set out in the "Impact of the Reformed Structure of Income-Related Benefits" which was published at the time of the uprating statement on 27 October 1987. Table 2A shows that 880,000 claimants under pension age who have children will have an increased entitlement and 270,000 will be unaffected by the change. Because of transitional protection no one in this group will experience a drop in total benefit income at the point of change. A copy of this document is in the Library.
