HC Deb 05 February 1988 vol 126 cc801-2W
Mr. Nicholas Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what effects he expects the abolition of family income supplement to have on the income of families with children whose breadwinner is in work.

Mr. Scott

Family income supplement will be replaced by family credit, and we estimate that this new benefit should help more than twice as many families as family income supplement does at present. Almost all will receive more from family credit than from family income supplement, had it continued. Further details appear in tables 3A and 3B of "Impact of the reformed structure of income related benefits", October 1987, copies of which are available in the Library.
