HC Deb 05 February 1988 vol 126 cc768-9W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Prime Minister if she will make it her policy at the next European Council of Ministers meeting to raise the matter of the bribery and corruption allegations involving European Economic Community civil nuclear installations; and what initiatives she expects to take to strengthen Euratom safeguards provisions in the European Economic Community.

The Prime Minister

No. The allegations surrounding the transfer of nuclear material between Belgium and the Federal Republic of Germany are matters for those Governments. Judicial inquiries into them have been set up in both countries and the question is also to be considered by a committee of inquiry of the Federal Germany Parliament. Investigations by the European Commission and the International Atomic Energy Agency have found no evidence of any breach of Euratom safeguards provisions.
