To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the number of job vacancies registered at jobcentres in the south London area.

Mr. Lee

On 4 December 1987, the number of unfilled vacancies registered at jobcentres in the south London* area was 8,379.

Note:—*Beckenham and Penge, Bermondsey, Bexley Heath, Borough, Brixton, Bromley, Catford, Camberwell, Clapham Junction, Croydon, Deptford and Greenwich, Eltham, Erith, Kingston-upon-Thames, Lewisham, Mitcham, Orpington, Sidcup, Stockwell, Streatham, Sutton, Tooting-Balham, West Norwood, Wimbledon, and Woolwich.

Mr. Lee

The number of unfilled vacancies registered at jobcentres in the East Anglia region on the 4 December 1987 was 8,156.

The number of unfilled vacancies registered at jobcentres in the east midlands region on the 4 December 1987 was 11,787.
