HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c504W
47. Mr. Chapman

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what studies his Department has made of changes in routes and frequency of lorry traffic in London, following the completion of the M25 orbital motorway; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Classified traffic counts were taken on all major roads in the vicinity of the M25 motorway in 1987, including those in outer London boroughs. The counts are currently being processed and results will be published in "Transport Statistics Great Britain 1977–1987" in September 1988. Traffic counts of medium and heavy goods vehicles crossing cordons on the London boundary, around inner London and around central London fell by 9 per cent. 6 per cent. and 8 per cent. respectively between 1980 and 1986.
