HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c504W
46. Dr. Michael Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many rural bypasses have been authorised over the last three years; what is their total mileage; and what proportion are proposed as dual carriageway.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Since 1 January 1985, orders have been made for 40 bypasses on national roads, with a total length of nearly 170 miles. Of these 15 (37.5 per cent.) are dual carriageway schemes, with a further five (12.5 per cent.) of mixed dual and single carriageway standard.
