To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what studies his Department has commissioned to examine the causes of inner city land remaining vacant.

In February 1988 we published "Vacant Urban Land : A Literature Review 1976–86", the central part of which outlines the current state of knowledge on the nature of the urban land market and in particular the causes of urban land vacancy. The Property Advisory Group is presently examining the problems of vacant inner city land, and we expect to commission further research in the near future.
