HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c485W
46. Sir John Biggs-Davison

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his decision on the proposed Benthall park development, in the light of the policy of Her Majesty's Government on the green belt.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Benthall park development was allowed because of the pressing need to provide new housing for Harlow and the Stansted airport expansion. The detailed boundary of the green belt in the area has yet to be defined. The circumstances of that case were exceptional, and the decision does not signify any lessening of the Government's commitment to protect the green belt from inappropriate development.
