HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c485W
48. Sir John Farr

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to limit the compensation that may be paid when a tree preservation order is issued to a valuation as woodland.

Mr. Moynihan

I refer my hon. Friend to the Adjournment debate which took place in the House on 22 March at columns 335–38. The Government are giving urgent consideration to the most appropriate action to maintain the general effectiveness of tree preservation orders affecting woodland, following the recent decision by the Court of Appeal.
