HL Deb 11 April 1988 vol 495 cc963-4WA
The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in relation to the envisaged scheme to licence salmon dealers, it is intended that netsmen and hoteliers will be ineligible to apply for licences; and that the numbers of those who are licensed in any Scottish district or English or Welsh water authority area will be strictly limited.

Lord Sanderson of Bowden

The details of the salmon dealer licensing schemes in Scotland and in England and Wales are being considered following consultation with interested bodies. The consultation papers envisage that, in order to participate in certain categories of trade, netsmen and hoteliers would need to be licensed. There are no proposals to limit the number of licences issued.
