HL Deb 11 April 1988 vol 495 c964WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

With reference to their written reply of 23rd March, what advice concerning economic and social policies and priorities (a) within Northern Ireland and (b) within Belfast City and immediate neighbourhood, has been given by the advisory committee of senior civil servants to the Board of the International Fund for Ireland.

Viscount Long

The advisory committee has met at least once before each of the board's 11 meetings and on each occasion has considered various matters pertaining to the board's policies, under the terms of the agreement to establish the International Fund for Ireland. In particular, it has advised the board of the fund of the government's economic and social policies and priorities in the fields of tourism, agriculture and fisheries, science and technology, business enterprise, urban regeneration, training and work experience. This advice relates to the whole of Northern Ireland and is designed mainly to ensure that the fund's programmes do not duplicate those of government agencies.
