§ Mr. Lawrenceasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he proposes to introduce stricter controls on the use of colour additives in food; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Donald ThompsonFollowing the publication of the Food Advisory Committee report on colouring matter in foods on 30 March, I circulated for comment proposals to implement three of the report's recommendations, namely those banning the use of colours in baby foods, removing yellow 2G from the permitted list, and preventing the use of methyl violet for marking citrus fruits. I expect to be laying those regulations before Parliament shortly.
I shall also be issuing a further statement as soon as representations on the remaining recommendations in the report have been fully considered.
