To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the total identified cost of maintaining the Houses of Parliament for the financial years 1985–86 and 1986–87.

Expenditure charged to the parliamentary works subhead for the maintenance and running costs of the parliamentary estate was £7.612 million for 1985–86 and £7.492 million for 1986–87.
