HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 c605W
Sir Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland on what dates in 1985, 1986 and 1987, respectively, the Police Federation of Northern Ireland requested that a meeting be held of the Police Advisory Board; what response he gave to those requests; and why no meeting of the board has taken place.

Mr. Stanley

The Police Federation for Northern Ireland requested meetings of the Police Advisory Board on 9 September 1985, 16 May 1986, and 11 May 1987. After the 9 September 1985 request, the Police Federation itself sought a delay to enable further topics to be tabled. On 16 May 1986 it asked for two further items to be added to the agenda. The federation was informed that a meeting of the board would be called to discuss only the first subject raised and it was asked if it would be prepared to proceed on that basis. I am not aware of any reply being received. The latest request is being considered in consultation with all the interested parties; and the federation has been informed accordingly.

Sir Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the Police Advisory Board last met; and if he will provide a list of the meetings that have taken place during each of the past five years of the Police Advisory Boards of England and Wales, of Scotland and of Northern Ireland, respectively.

Mr. Stanley

The Police Advisory Board for Northern Ireland last met on 22 March 1982. Meetings of the Police Advisory Boards in England and Wales, and Scotland are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary and my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
