HC Deb 09 March 1987 vol 112 c16W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to provide further facilities on the M25 for those driving heavy goods vehicles to obtain rest, refreshment and refuelling.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We plan, as a matter of priority, to provide four motorway service areas at broadly the cardinal compass points of the M25. The site at South Mimms is scheduled to open in May. The existing facilities for heavy goods vehicles will expand. The Thurrock site is planned to open in 1988–89. The proposal for Clacket lane, near Westerham, awaits the outcome of a public inquiry. I shall shortly make a statement about the remaining site proposed at Iver. All motorway service areas provide rest, refreshment and refuelling facilities for heavy goods vehicle drivers.
