§ Mrs. Virginia Bottomleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many doctors and dentists were employed in the West Surrey/North East Hampshire health authority in 1979, 1983 and the latest date for which information is available;
(2) how many doctors and dentists were employed in the South-West Surrey district health authority in 1979, 1983 and the latest date for which information is available.
§ Mr. NewtonI am sorry I cannot give my hon. Friend all the information she seeks. The contracts of senior hospital medical and dental staff (ie consultants and senior registrars) are held by the regional health authority or teaching districts and the information on their allocation to individual districts is not held centrally. It is not therefore possible to provide an overall total number of doctors or dentists employed within specific districts. Those staffing figures which are available are shown in the table.
