HC Deb 09 March 1987 vol 112 cc28-9W
Mr. Lawler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any plans to strengthen controls on the operation of the bookmaking industry to safeguard the public interest.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We have no plans at present to strengthen the controls in the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963. We are aware of the concern about certain recent developments and the consideration being given to these matters by the Office of Fair Trading. We shall continue to maintain a close interest in the operation of the present controls.
