§ Mr. Andrew F. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money Her Majesty's Government expect Tameside metropolitan borough to receive from European funding for the Mersey basin programme over each year of the programme.
§ Mr. TrippierThe amount received by Tameside will depend on the value of eligible council projects for each year of the programme; the priority which it accords to those projects within its own capital investment programme; and the priorities of the Mersey basin campaign overall.
§ Mr. Andrew F. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of money spent by Her Majesty's Government and by the European Community on the Mersey basin programme has been spent in the upper parts of the basin at Oldham, Tameside, Stockport and Manchester; and what amount in the lower part of the basin.
§ Mr. TrippierOf the £65.6 million European regional development fund grants awarded under phase 1 of the Mersey basin programme, £4.1 million went to Oldham, £5.6 million to Tameside and £2.5 million to Manchester—18.6 per cent. in all. No grant went to Stockport, and the remaining £53.4 million went to the other parts of the programme area. Government expenditure in support of the Mersey basin campaign has been incurred under a wide range of powers and programmes but no record has been kept of its total extent.
§ Mr. Burtasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in view of the concern expressed by the textile districts of Greater Manchester over the implementation of phase 1 of the Mersey basin programme, he is satisfied that there has been adequate formal consultation with local authorities on the full programme of phase 2 prior to its submission to the European Economic Community.
§ Mr. TrippierYes — through the three formally-constituted local authority-led project groups of the Mersey basin campaign. The interests of the textile districts of Greater Manchester have been well catered for in the EC submission.
