The 1976 exchange of notes between the United States of America and the United Kingdom requires both Governments to consult periodically on joint objectives, policies and activities in the British Indian Ocean Territory. As is well known, it is not the policy of the United States or the United Kingdom to confirm or deny the deployment of nuclear weapons in any place at any time.
