Mr. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will further define those categories of non-lethal defence equipment which may be exported from the United Kingdom to Iran and Iraq.
§ Mr. MellorSuch exports are not categorised. I refer the hon. Member to the guidelines on defence sales to Iran and Iraq that my right hon. and learned Friend announced to the House on 29 October 1985, at column 454, in his answer to the right hon. Member for Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale (Mr. Steel). We prohibit the sale of any defence-related equipment that could significantly enhance the capability of either side to prolong or exacerbate the conflict.
