HC Deb 15 July 1987 vol 119 cc530-1W
56. Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment which local authority has the highest level of rent arrears; and what this level is in terms of the number of weeks arrears per average household and in cash terms.

Mrs. Roe

Local authorities in England reported their rent arrears as at 1 April 1986 on their housing subsidy claim forms. The highest level of arrears, in relation to annual payments due, was reported by the London borough of Brent. This authority reported a total of £10.96 million rent arrears, which was equivalent to 33 times the average weekly rent due on its council dwellings.
