§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list for each local authority area in England and Wales the number of homes made available to people under the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act for each of the last five years; and what percentage this represented of the total number of houses available for new tenants for each year.
§ Mr. WaldegraveLocal authorities provide information on lettings to new tenants in their annual housing investment programme returns. The table gives for each English authority for each of the five years to 1985–86, the number of dwellings let to homeless households in priority need and the percentage this represents of all dwellings let to new tenants. The figures for 1981–82 and 1982–83 are for secure new tenancies only, while the later figures include also non-secure tenancies.
In fulfilling their duties to secure accommodation for homeless households in priority need, authorities also make nominations for housing in other areas under mobility schemes and for tenancies with housing associations and new towns, and find accommodation in the private sector.
For the position in Wales, I refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.

§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list those local authorities in England and Wales which have been required to provide homes for people who have declared themselves homeless under the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act.
§ Mr. WaldegraveEvery local housing authority in England has reported accepting responsibility for securing accommodation for some households under the provisions of the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act 1977 now contained in the Housing Act 1985. For the position in Wales, I refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has as to those areas from which people applying for housing under the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act have emanated.
§ Mr. WaldegraveLocal authorities provide summary information on the whereabouts one year previously of the households for which they have accepted responsibility to secure accommodation. The latest estimates are for acceptances by all English local authorities in the first quarter of 1987 and are as follows:
