HL Deb 09 July 1987 vol 488 cc822-3WA
Lord Bruce of Donington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will provide an estimate of the total additional revenue which would accrue to the Treasury per annum following the imposition of VAT at 4 per cent. on those items of flood at present zero-rated.

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (Lord Young of Graff ham)

It is estimated that the imposition of value-added tax at 4 per cent. on those items of food at present zero-rated would raise about £1,100 million in a full year at 1987ߝ88 prices.
