§ Lord Northfieldasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will confirm that the Barbados Government have nominated British West Indian Airways as their carrier for the purpose of inter -governmental decisions about air flights between London and Barbados; whether they will therefore confirm that this entitles British West Indian Airways to replace the services formerly operated by Caribbean Airways of Barbados; and whether, in these circumstances, they will now accede to the request for two extra flights per week and for an indefinite period.

§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)The terms of the UK-Barbados bilateral Air Services Agreement preclude Barbados from designating a foreign airline to operate air services between Bridgetown and the UK. Hence, as I explained to the noble Lord on 30th June (Hansard vol. 488 col. 238) BWIA is not entitled to replace the services formerly operated by Caribbean Airways.
