§ Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has granted any additional funding to the University Grants Committee to enable it to finance expenses incurred by universities in contesting test cases in the courts; and which universities and colleges have received undertakings from the University Grants Committee that such litigation will be underwritten by the grants committee.
Mr. JacksonNo additional funds have been provided by the Government for this particular purpose. The UGC156W told universities in 1982 that, in appropriate circumstances, it would be ready to make a contribution towards damages and costs arising from court proceedings in connection with redundancy. This remains its policy.
