HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c534W
Mr. Dewar

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects the Kymmene-Stromberg paper mill at Irvine to become fully operational; how many permanent (a) full-time and (b) part-time jobs it will provide; and over what time scale those jobs will become available.

Mr. Rifkind

The Kymmene Stromberg paper mill at Irvine is expected to come into operation during 1989 and to be employing around 430 full-time people by the end of that year. When fully operational in 1991 the mill is expected to employ 480 people full-time. No part-time employment is envisaged. The building of the plant will also provide a boost for the local construction industry providing at present over 1,000 jobs.
