The Attorney-GeneralDuring 1986, 86 trails on indictment were handled by the fraud divisions of the Crown Prosecution Service. In 74 of these trials convictions were secured. These trials involved 195 defendants, of whom 121 pleaded guilty and 52 were convicted.
Of the 86 cases, 22 were formally designated as FIG cases. In 21 of these cases convictions were secured.
The total sum at risk in the cases dealt with in 1986 was £171 million.
The average time from first reference to the fraud divisions to plea or verdict was 16 months.
