Ms. Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will list the hospitals(a) approved for total closure and (b) approved for partial closure for each district health authority since April 1985;

(2) if he will list the hospitals (a) totally closed and (b) partially closed since April 1985 for each district health authority.

The hospitals approved for(a) complete closure and (b) partial closure between April 1985 and December 1986, the latest date for which statistics are currently available, are as listed. It should be noted that closure plans may be modified, delayed or even dropped after approval is obtained; our routinely collected statistics record approved and not actual closures.
