HL Deb 27 October 1986 vol 481 c598WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the "contingency planning" for the deployment of binary chemical weapons in Europe (including in the United Kingdom), referred to by Ambassador Abshire in his testimony to the Strategic and Theater Nuclear Forces Sub-Corn mittee of the United States Senate Armed Forces Committee on 10th April 1986, has yet been completed.

Lord Trefgarne

The United Kingdom has not been approached about the possible contingency deployment of United States chemical weapons specifically in this country. If such a request were ever to be received, it would be a matter for decision by the government of the day, in the light of the circumstances prevailing at the time.
