§ Mr. Allan Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the trunk road projects on which he expects work to start before the end of 1989.
§ Mr. Michael AncramStart dates for trunk road schemes are subject to a number of uncertainties, including the completion of statutory procedures and the availability of funds. Accordingly my right hon. and learned Friend's normal practice is to announce in the spring of each year only those major schemes which he expects to be ready to start in the following financial year. However, within the category of schemes costing over £5 million, possible starts in the period to the end of 1989 include the following:
M8 Newbridge to Edinburgh M80 Stepps Bypass A1 Tower to Dunglass A7 Dalkeith Bypass A9 Dornoch Firth crossing A9 Dunblane Bypass A68 Dalkeith Bypass A75 Annan Bypass A75 Dumfries Bypass A76 Cumnock and Auchinleck Bypass A76 New Cumnock Bypass A77 Ayr Road Route A78 Ardrossan and Saltcoats Bypass A82 Luss to Camus Nan Clais A92 Murcar to Balmedie (A92) East Fife Regional Road, Stages 3 and 4 A96 Inverurie Bypass
