asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in respect of the forestry planting in the year ended 31st March 1985 in which an application for grant was made but the applicant planted part of the land before a decision on the application was reached, they will state: (a) the total area of land involved; (b) the location of the area planted; (c) the name of the applicant; (d) what decision on the application was eventually reached; and (e) whether any grant for planting on this land has been agreed or paid.

The information is as follows: Some 190 hectares of land were plantd on Crichness Farm in the Lammermuir Hills, Borders Region. The application for grant was deemed to have been withdrawn when the planting took place, and no grant has been agreed or paid in respect of this planting. The applicants were Mr. C. MacDonald Hall and Mr. J. C. Smith.
