Mr. Newton

[pursuant to his reply 28 January 1986, c. 511]: The available information for the diseases referred to and the relevant international classification of diseases codes is given in the tables. The tables giving estimated number of discharges and deaths are based on the Hospital Inpatient Inquiry, a 10 per cent. sample of records from National Health Service non-psychiatric hospitals. In addition, a regional breakdown of deaths from multiple sclerosis and from Parkinson's disease has been published by the Office of Population, Censuses and Surveys in "Mortality Statistics: area series DH5 No. 11 1984", copies of which are in the Library.
