HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 cc578-9W
Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of totals and age ranges for (a) registered disabled persons (b) registered mobility allowance holders; and what projections of future trends have been made in each case.

Mr. Newton

[pursuant to his reply, 28 January 1986, c.509]: Information on the numbers of persons registered with Social Services Departments as physically or sensorily handicapped is collected triennially and the latest available data are given in the table.

The available information for registered mobility allowance holders as at 20 January 1986 is set out in the following table. Reliable forecasts for future years by reference to age are not available. Table 3.15.6 of "The Government's Expenditure Plans 1986–87 to 1988–89" (Cmnd. 9702) shows the estimated average number of recipients during the years 1986–87 and 1987–88 as 450,000 and 495,000 respectively.
